Suddenly the report and a self-destructive lifestyle was taking a toll on the mind and body after the outstanding success of Jack Kerouac's groundbreaking new way. When the beautiful literary maverick and hero of the Beat Generation, Kerouac now sees only a remnant of his former self, ravaged by alcohol and drugs, old beyond his years and tormented self-doubt.
